Eagles’ Cooper fined for racial slur

Eagles receiver Riley Cooper issued a statement Thursday apologizing for a YouTube video showing him using a racial slur at a recent Kenny Chesney concert.

Cooper is shown yelling and threatening to jump a fence and fight a crowd of people. He was caught on camera saying, “I will jump that fence and fight every n—-r” here.”

Cooper immediately took to Twitter to apologize to fans, right after the video went viral. The popular Philly sports blog, Crossing Broad, was the first to post the NSFW video.

“I am so ashamed and disgusted with myself. I want to apologize. I have been offensive,” Cooper said in a statement. “I have apologized to my coach, to Jeffrey Lurie, to Howie Roseman and to my teammates. I owe an apology to the fans and to this community. I am so ashamed, but there are no excuses. What I did was wrong and I will accept the consequences.”

Cooper has been running with the first-team offense in training camp practices. With Jeremy Maclin out for the season with a torn ACL, he is expected to be the starting receiver opposite DeSean Jacksonn. The Eagles have decided to fine Cooper for his actions.

“We are shocked and appalled by Riley Cooper’s words,” team owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. “This sort of behavior or attitude from anyone has no role in a civil society. He has accepted responsibility for his words and his actions. He has been fined for this incident.”
