Eagles Day 2 Mock Draft: Philly finds impact players at positions of need

The Philadelphia Eagles were among the biggest winners in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft after somehow being able to land two defensive stalwarts from Georgia. What does day two have in store?

The Philadelphia Eagles have two picks on day 2 of the NFL Draft – #62 (round 2) and #64 (round 3) after the Arizona Cardinals admitted to the NFL that they had tampered during the hiring process of Jonathan Gannon. This pushed a third-round pick swap, elevating Philly right to the top of the totem pole in the third round.

Day 2 Eagles Mock Draft

Round 2 (Pick 62): Sydney Brown, S, Illinois

The temptation to move up and try and grab Brian Branch is tempting, but he won’t be around long and the Eagles would likely need to give up more than their re-worked third-rounder to get into a position where grabbing him is viable (probably around 40th).

Instead, they pick up Sydney Brown. He’s a ball-hawking safety who had 6 picks in 2022 and would complement the skillset of Reed Blankenship brilliantly. He’s a great box defender who loves getting down and dirty in the run and he’s highly instinctive which can lead to some explosive plays where he swarms the ball-carrier. His tackling could use some refining, but there’s a lot to like here if he’s still on the board.

Round 3 (Pick 64): Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa

The Eagles need a backup for Dallas Goedert and LaPorta may be among the most pro-ready in this class. His 4.59 40-yard dash make him a menace in the open field in the same way that Goedert is now. He’s a true receiving TE at 6’4, 250 lbs who amassed 657 yards and a touchdown last year at Iowa.
