Eagles expected to bring back Fletcher Cox on one year deal

Well that didn’t take long.

Hours after releasing the six-time Pro-Bowler, the Philadelphia Eagles have brought back DT, Fletcher Cox on a new one-year deal worth close to $15 million.

While there are still details to be announced on his overall contract, bringing Cox back ensures the Eagles keep one of the longest-tenured players on the team. Cox will be a free agent after the 2022 season, which will be his 11th with the Eagles.

The former 12th overall pick has been one of the best players the Eagles have had and was on the NFL All-Decade Team for the 2010’s. Cox played in 16 games last season totaling 3.5 sacks with 12 QB Hits. His numbers have dwindled as of late, but he is still excellent against the run and can still perform like a top player.

Originally, the Eagles were on the hook for $18 million guaranteed to Cox before they released him at the 4pm window. The release saved the team $18 million for the cap with the new deal expected to bring the same guarantees to Cox for one year. This also means the team will no longer be on the hook for his long, restructured deal after the season.

More on this story, along with added compensation, to follow as is reported.
