Eagles Fantasy Outlook: 5 players that you must start in their clash against the Falcons

The Eagles are coming off an exciting offensive debut versus the Packers last Friday night in Brazil.

The schedule makers awarded the team extra rest to recover from their ten-hour flight with a Monday night matchup against the Atlanta Falcons this week.

The highly anticipated home opener in Philadelphia should provide a lot of offense for the Eagles and your fantasy team!

Here are the Eagles players that you must start in week 2:

Jalen Hurts

Last season Jalen Hurts averaged 21.9 ppg which was 2nd most for a QB, behind Josh Allen. He is a must-start most weeks, and this week, versus the Falcons. He is coming off a so-so performance from Brazil where he still managed 21.42 points.

The 2023 Falcons tied for 3rd to last in interceptions last season, but they are improved with Justin Simmons in their backfield. Even so, the Eagles will attack the Falcons via the passing game and Hurts should eclipse last week’s totals and have another solid week.

Projected fantasy points: 22.80

Saquon Barkley

Last week I stated that it would be the Saquon Barkley show, live from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He did not disappoint! He hit the ground running, literally, and had a hat trick (3 TDs) in his Eagles debut. He will look to build upon that performance this week.

The Falcon’s 2023 defense was in the middle of the pack versus the run but only gave up 3.3 yards per carry last week versus the Steelers.

Saquon will be involved, but I suspect the game plan will not have him with as many touches. He will be active, productive, and a top performer for your squad on Monday night.

Projected fantasy points: 14.80

A.J. Brown

A.J. Brown got his season started with a long 67-yard TD against one of the best corners in the league last Friday from Brazil. He led the team in targets and will be a heavy part of the game plan this week, and every week.

The Falcons backfield seems improved from 2023 but they did allow Steelers QB Justin Fields to connect with George Pickens for six catches and 85 yards last week.

This is a matchup A.J. should have little trouble exploiting and he should provide another big day for your fantasy team.

Projected fantasy points: 17.90

DeVonta Smith

A.J. Brown provided the highlight reel 67-yard TD, but when the Eagles needed clutch receptions to move the chains, Jalen Hurts looked to DeVonta Smith.

He led the team in receptions with 7 and provided 84 hard-fought yards. Smitty likely draws the Falcons CB2 and could be in for a big game

Last week was the Saquon show, this week should be Slim Reaper’s chance to be the star for the Philadelphia Eagles, playing at Lincoln Financial Field in their season opener. Expect a lot of fireworks being shot off in South Philly on Monday night, and for DeVonta to provide a couple of them.

Projected fantasy points: 18.50

Dallas Goedert

Dallas was fighting through an oblique injury the last week of camp but he was healthy enough for the trip to Brazil and played the entire game without incident. He saw 5 targets, making 4 receptions good for 31 yards. He should be in their plans a lot more this week versus Atlanta.

Steelers tight end, Pat Freiermuth, was second in the team for targets and receptions in week one versus the Falcons, and Dallas could play a similar role for the Eagles Monday night.

The Dirty Birds allowed the 4th most receiving yards to tight ends in 2023. Dallas Goedert and Eagles OC Kellen Moore will look to take advantage of that this week.

Projected fantasy points: 10.50
