Eagles injury report: updates on Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles, Connor Barwin

Last week’s 26-15 loss in Seattle did the Eagles no favors health-wise. A bevy of important Birds left the game with an injury at some point, with some returning and some sitting out the remainder of the game. Here’s an update on each of the wounded Birds thus far heading toward Week 12’s Monday Night Football battle against the Packers:

Ryan Mathews, RB: Doug Pederson said Mathews is day-to-day with his hurt right knee. When asked if Wendell Smallwood would get an increased workload should Mathews miss the Green Bay game, Pederson said “we’ll evaluate Ryan later in the week, but Wendell has done a nice job, and I think if need be, I think Wendell would be okay taking the brunt of the load.”

Halapoulivaati Vaitai, T: The Eagles will shuffle their offensive line with Big V expected to miss some time witha Grade 2 MCL sprain.

“Moving forward, it looks like we’ll go back to our preseason thought: move Allen [Barbre] over there and give him the week of reps over at right tackle,” Pederson said. “Then you’ve got Wiz [Stefen Wisniewski] and Isaac [Seumalo] at the guard spot and then keep [Matt] Tobin available.”

Connor Barwin, DE:“He just has a bone bruise,” the coach said.”He’ll be fine for the game, but we’re going to hold him out of our work on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.”

Darren Sproles, RB: The small shifty running back missed time after hurting his rib and not returning Sunday. The seventh rib injury is much likeBrent Celek’s earlier this season but Pederson says it’s in “a safe area.”

“We’ll hold [Sproles] from practice on Wednesday and Thursday, and just see where he’s at later in the week,” Pederson said, “but he should be fine for the game.”

Jason Peters, T: The Eagles left tackle left Sunday’s gamewith a forearm injury in the first quarterbut returned in the second quarter. He was cleared by the medical staff and should be full-go in practice this week.
