Eagles inside linebackers on the right track as injuries mount

The Eagles have had bad luck when it comes to their inside linebacking corps.

With Kiko Alonso and Mychal Kendricks, arguably among the two most talented young linebackers in football recovering from long-term (but not season-ending) injuries, the team also lost DeMeco Ryans to a minor injury Monday night in a 27-7 win against the Giants.

Ryans is hoping to be back on the field soon, but did not practice Wednesday. Kendricks was a full participant while Alonso was limited.

“We’re going to test the waters with [Kendricks] and [Alonso] today,” Eagles defensive coordinator Bill Davis said. “They’re going to get a little bit, and it’s just kind of saying, ‘Okay, where are we?’ So they will get out there a little bit this week. I don’t really anticipate them — it’s a day-to-day thing, so hopefully they surprise me, but I don’t know if they will. The key thing is them getting healthy and getting healthy at the right pace that their body will allow them to.”

Luckily, in the mean time rookie Jordan Hicks (10 tackles Monday) and veteran Najee Goode have stepped in seamlessly to fill the role as the starters recover.

“It’s hard. You don’t want to see anybody go down for any type of reason,” Hicks said Monday night. I’m hoping that they come back quick, but until they come back, you have to be ready when your number is called. When my number is called, I have to be able to hold my weight because this team is depending on me.”

Receivers Nelson Agholor and RIley Cooperalso did not practice, but Brandon Bair and Josh Huff did take the field Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex.
