Eagles’ Josh Sills found not guilty for rape charges, removed from commissioner exempt list

Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Josh Sills was found not guilty by a jury in Ohio on charges of rape and potential kidnapping Friday afternoon.

NFL remove Josh Sills from Commissioner exempt list

Jurors started deliberating shortly after noon Friday and returned the verdict nearly three hours later at 2:45 pm. Sills was indicted on both first-degree felony charges on February 1st — nearly two weeks before the Eagles headed to Glendale, Arizona, to face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.

The NFL has since removed the offensive lineman from the commissioner’s exempt list and is now eligible to rejoin the team. Sills was placed on the exempt list a day after the charges were brought forth.

“I have done nothing wrong,” Sills said in court after thanking the jury Friday morning.

Sills was an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State and West Virginia and was seen as a quality young prospect in the Eagles system to back up the likes of Hall-of-Famer Jason Kelce and Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson.

“We are aware that the legal matter involving Josh Sills has been adjudicated and he was found not guilty. The organization has monitored the situation. The NFL has removed him from the Commissioner’s Exempt List and he will return to the team’s active roster,” the team said in a statement Friday evening.

Should the team expect him back in practice, the Eagles would expect to have him competing with Sua Opeta for the backup guard position.
