Eagles Notebook: Jackson update; Vick day-to-day

The Eagles don’t have time to sit on this one. As shocking as Sunday night’s victory over the NFC East-leading Giants was, it’s in the rear-view mirror. The Birds are 4-6 and host the Patriots this week. With that in mind, coach Andy Reid addressed the media Monday …

DeSean Jackson, who was wearing a walking boot on his right foot after Sunday’s game, has a foot contusion, according to Reid. Jackson was stepped on during the third or fourth play of the game. The coach said the injury isn’t serious.

“It’s sore today, but it’s not a Lisfranc or one of those things,” Reid said. “It got stepped on. It’s tender. He came in early this morning and got treatment, so we’ll see how he does.”

TWO GAMES BACK. Many Eagles players expressed a real belief that they can run the table and finish at 10-6 — and possibly still win the NFC East. The team is just two games behind the Giants (6-4) and Cowboys (6-4). However, Reid doesn’t want to get ahead of himself.

“I think you have to just take it one game at a time,” Reid said. “There’s not enough time or energy to worry about all that stuff. You kind of control what you can control, and that’s getting yourself ready to play the New England Patriots, who are a good football team.”

HANSON AT NICKEL. Reid said that injured cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is “making progress” with his high ankle sprain, but the coach doesn’t expect him back soon. That means the job of stopping the Patriots’ Wes Welker belongs to Joselio Hanson. Struggling starter Nnamdi Asomugha could also see time in nickel packages, as he has in recent weeks.

VICK STILL DAY-TO-DAY. There’s no QB controversy here. Injured starter Mike Vick (ribs) will be the starter once he’s healthy enough to play. But when exactly will that be? “We’ll just see, see how it goes, take it day-by-day here,” said Reid, adding that Vick was the first one to call and congratulate Vince Young after the backup led a game-winning drive against the Giants.

“Michael has been good for Vince,” Reid said. “They have a good, nice friendship going there.”
