The Eagles have sustained a few injuries early in camp. Fortunately, most of them have been to bit players — until now. Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Babin is reportedly expected to miss up to three weeks after an MRI revealed a Grade 2 muscle strain.
Babin left practice Saturday afternoon during 1-on-1 drills. He recorded a career-high 18 sacks last season in his second tour of duty with the Birds. The team was off Tuesday, but it will return to the field Wednesday. Brandon Graham is expected to take the bulk of Babin’s snaps.
The Eagles announced Tuesday that they had signed wide receiver Andrew Brewer. He’ll take the roster spot vacated by Ron Johnson, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury Monday. Brewer played the last two seasons in the UFL. He was Eagles backup quarterback Mike Kafka’s favorite target while the two attended Northwestern.
The Eagles have shown no interest in free agent receiver Plaxico Burress despite his repeated cries to play in Philadelphia. Burress recently told 97.5 The Fanatic that “Philly is high on my list.” He also told ESPN that he spoke with coach Andy Reid at length earlier in the offseason. For now — with Riley Cooper (collarbone) out for six weeks — the Eagles seem content to rely on rookie Marvin McNutt to be their red-zone target.
