Eagles Notebook: Jason Kelce tears ACL, MCL

Meet your new starting center, Dallas Reynolds.

Jason Kelce may or may not have surgery to repair a partial ACL tear and full tear of the MCL in his right knee. The Eagles will seek second opinions and weigh all their options before making a final decision, according to head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder. One thing is certain, Kelce is out this week against Arizona. The center will undergo a diagnostic arthroscopy today.

Long story made simple, Kelce has two options: either get surgery right away, or wait until the MCL heals and then play less than 100-percent.

“It’s a mixed bag,” Burkholder said. “Some people get it fixed right away, and some people just let the MCL heal and play with a partial [ACL tear].”

Reid confirmed that Reynolds would be the starter moving forward and praised his effort in relief of Kelce. Reynolds handled all the calls doing everything Kelce would have done, according to Reid.

Reid didn’t rule out adding another offensive lineman for depth. If that move comes, it would likely come later in the week. Former Eagles center Jamaal Jackson is a free agent, but he reportedly failed a physical with Dallas in the offseason.

Also hurt … Left tackle King Dunlap is day-to-day with a sore hamstring. If he can’t go Sunday, Demetress Bell will start. Receiver Jeremy Maclin has a hip contusion in addition to his hip pointer. He’ll struggle to practice Wednesday. Receiver Riley Copper (collarbone) is still rehabbing and won’t practice Wednesday. Safety Colt Anderson hyper-extended his off knee, not the surgically-repaired one. Receiver Jason Avant is still dealing with an injured wrist.
