Eagles OC happy with McCoy’s workload

Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur thinks the Eagles can get faster on offense.

The biggest challenge for the Eagles right now is figuring out a way to keep the guys fresh. Coach Chip Kelly admitted that he needed to do a better job rotating some of the backups in moving forward.

LeSean McCoy rushed for 184 yards on a career-high 31 carries. While the coaching staff wants to lessen his load a bit, they are not ruling out giving McCoy that kind of workload again.

“We won the game. He carried the ball, he carried the ball well, was very productive,” offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said. “Obviously, we want everybody that’s active to play, and he did a good job, and he’ll be out here running and practicing today, so that’s not a problem.”

Shurmur noted that despite getting the win Monday night, he noticed a lot of mistakes when reviewing the game film. He also echoed Kelly’s comments that the Eagles want to play at an even faster pace.

“There’s been a lot of conversation about how we won,” Shurmur said. “When we looked at the tape, we saw lots of errors, way more than we want to have. So that’s what’s fun is being able to enjoy the victory but know that we can play much better, and I know Coach Kelly commented on how we can play much faster, as well.”

No blocking for Vick
The coaching staff has instructed Mike Vick not to serve as a lead-blocker on rushing plays.

“We don’t want him lead blocking on sweeps, and so we told him don’t do that, so we assume he won’t,” said Shurmur.
