Eagles open up as 8.5 point favorites over Browns despite worrying form

With Week 5 in the books, the Philadelphia Eagles are back in action this week against the struggling Cleveland Browns. According to sportsbooks, the Birds are huge home favorites over their opponents.

The Eagles are currently listed as 8.5-point favorites over the Browns. Both teams have stumbled out of the gates this season, combining for 3 total wins and 6 losses.

If there is ever a bounce-back spot for Philadelphia, it’s this one. The roster is too talented and will be getting a healthy dose of reinforcements this week. Both A.J Brown and DeVonta Smith should be on the field together for the first time since Week 2, and S Sydney Brown is gearing up for his return from a torn ACL.

The Browns rank 32nd in yards per play with a dismal 3.2 average, and although their defense has fared much better, it gave up 434 yards to the Commanders in Week 5. This matches up very well for a Philadelphia offense that has all the playmakers to rip through any opposition, and a defense that’s been very hot and cold to start the year.

This isn’t quite a must-win for the Eagles, but it’s close. The Cowboys are struggling, and the Giants have long-term question marks, leaving only the Commanders as viable contenders to snatch the NFC East crown from their grasp. A statement here would certainly put some short-term concerns to bed and that seems to be what the oddsmakers are predicting.
