Eagles reach five-year deal with would-be free agent Vinny Curry

The Eagles are working on shoring up their potent pass rush.

On a day filled with musings about a possible $100 million-plus contract for defensive end Fletcher Cox, the Eagles, according to various sources, have agreed on terms with Vinny Curry.

Curry, another defensive end, will be an Eagle for five years and be paid $47.25 million with $23 million of that guaranteed. Unlike Cox, who has a year left on his contract Curry was about to hit free agency.

Curry had 3.5 sacks last season but made an impact far greater than his numbers. He will undoubtedly be a key member of the front four next season under Jim Schwartz, as the Birds return to a 4-3 defensive set.

It is the fourth contract accepted by an Eagle since Doug Pederson took over a few weeks ago (with Howie Roseman calling the shots). Zach Ertz, Brent Celek and Lane Johnson also signed extensions.

Obviously excited about staying in Philly, Curry, 27, tweeted “#FlyEaglesFly 5 More Years…. God Is Great” Tuesday at 6:45 p.m.

The signing makes it more likely than not that the team lets Cedric Thornton, also a free agent walk.
