Eagles’ Rodney McLeod to miss rest of season with torn ACL

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson announced that starting safety Rodney McLeod will miss the remainder of the 2020 season after it was discovered that he tore his ACL during Sunday’s victory over the New Orleans Saints.

McLeod suffered a non-contact injury to his left knee five minutes into the third quarter and did not return, causing those close with the team to fear the injury was a serious one. An MRI on Monday morning confirmed the bad news.

The 30-year-old had been a reliable mainstay within the Eagles’ defense over the last two seasons, playing in all 1,948 defensive snaps until suffering the injury on Sunday evening.

McLeod missed most of the 2018 season because of a torn ACL also, but that was in his left knee. He was playing under the first season of a two-year contract worth $8.65 million, which carries a $5.2 million cap hit.

In 13 games this season, he racked up 66 tackles, seven passes defended, and one interception.

He wasn’t the only member of the secondary bitten by the injury bug on Sunday. Pederson also disclosed that Avonte Maddox will miss “some time in the next couple weeks” due to a knee injury while top cornerback Darius Slay is in the league’s concussion protocol.
