Eagles’ Saquon Barkley named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after standout performance in Week 1

If you live under rock, Saquon Barkley made his Eagles debut on Friday night in Brazil and was exactly as advertised. On top of the Eagles’ big win against the Packers, it has now been reported that he has been named the NFL’s NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Barkley showed how lethal he can be in an offense full of household names. Whether on the ground or in the air, he was exactly what Philadelphia needed in the most crucial moments of the game. From a 23-yard touchdown reception to a 34-yard run that showed off his unique vision and explosiveness.

Saquon Barkley tallied 109 rushing yards on 24 attempts with two rushing touchable. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry against the Packers’ defense and carried the Eagles to their big win. He also had 2 receptions for 24 yards and one receiving touchdown that was a huge “Welcome to Philly” moment.

Eagles and Barkley are perfect for each other

He joined Philadelphia this offseason when he signed a 3-year, $37 million contract with $26 million guaranteed after being told by the Giants front office that they wanted him to go find his worth on the open market. Well, he found it alright and the Eagles found a diamond in the rough. After receiving a heavy amount of backlash for signing with the Giants’ NFC East rival, it was later reported that the Giants chose to not make an offer to their former first-round pick.

Barkley handled the entire situation with nothing but professionalism as he focused on making sure he could deliver on the big money that was invested in him and his ability. For the first time in his career, Barkley is surrounded be playmakers that can match what we brings to the table and more. With him and Jalen Hurts in the backfield together, the Eagles not only have one of the more athletic QB-RB tandems but they have two game-changers that can change how defense play this offense. I didn’t even mention the playmakers that they have in A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, and Dallas Goedert.

The Eagles are fully committed to maximizing the abilities of the former first-round pick but after heavily using him in week 1, the Eagles’ coaching staff plan to find ways of keeping their franchise running back as fresh as possible. His best ability for the Eagles this year will be his availability week in and week out. As the world witnessed on week 1, Barkley can go on to have a special season with the Eagles.
