The Philadelphia Eagles will have new faces in the secondary next season and it fits with their new position coach.
Philadelphia has hired Taver Johnson to coach the secondary next season according to Matt Zenitz of On 3 Sports. Since last season Johnson had been the defensive pass game coordinator for the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Previous college stints have seen him work in Ohio State’s secondary and Temple’s defensive coordinator role.
Johnson also has NFL experience. From 2019-20 he was the assistant defensive backs coach with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. He was also an offensive assistant on the staff in 2021.
The long-term college coach will have major shoes to fill in his first season in Philly. His predecessor, Dennard Wilson, helped Darius Slay and James Braderry reach All-Pro honors over the last two seasons and helped the Eagles’ defense lead the league against the pass. While Johnson will still coach Bradberry and Slay, he will have two new starting safeties as both Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and Marcus Epps have left in free agency.
