Eagles shock the world again, land a first round pick for Sam Bradford

Shocking. Simply shocking.

Howie Roseman shocked Eagles fans and the entire NFL Saturday when he manuved a deal to send quarterback Sam Bradford to the Vikings in exchange for a first and fourth round pick (in 2018). Sources have confirmed the pick can become a second or third based on Bradford’s performance.

Meaning, the Carson Wentz era is about to begin.

The number of different levels of intrigue this story brings are deep and vast.

First, the Eagles will not exactly opena ton of cap space, shipping $11 million man Bradford to Minnesota but, according to Ian Rapoport, they’ll cover $4 million of the deal.

They will also enter the regular season with either Wentz, who has not taken a preseason snap since the first game (he injured two ribs) or Chase Daniel, who looked pretty horrid in the fourth preseason game Thursday against the Jets.

The VIkings, who lost Teddy Bridgewater to an ugly season-ending knee injury last week now have a quarterback who is capable of carrying them (and Adrian Pederson) to a playoff berth. Bradford will reunite with Pat Shurmur in Minnesota, which comes to town in October to face the Eagles — how ironic.

Philly hosts the NFL draft in 2017 and will now have a first round pick afterall for fans to boo in April.

The Eagles were consistent in their assurances that they were trying to compete in 2016. Now, with second overal pickWentz on deck — finally — and a first rounder in 2017, the team could be delving into the rebuild full force.

The team is turning their attention to the future, and rightly so. They also jettison Bradford who, again, ironically, wanted out of Philadelphia when the Birds moved up to take Wentz.

Which might be the best thing for the team. It’s easy to be good, but to be great, sometimes it takes some luck and taking some chances.

The Eagles sure took a chance today.
