We’ve seen them do it time and time again against the NFL’s bottom feeders. But Thursday night, in front of a huge national Thanksgiving audience, the Eagles dismantled the Cowboys and took sole possession of first place in the NFC East in a 33-10 victory.
In a game with enough positives to write a novel of analysis, here are the three main reasons the Bird beat the Boys at Cowboy Stadium.
Run run run
LeSean McCoy is back. After rushing for 130 yards against the Titans just five days ago, the All-Pro picked up 159 yards on 25 carries. He also crossed the end zone on a 38-yard run to put the Eagles up 30-10 in the third quarter. His contributions were part of the Eagles renewed commitment to the ground attack. As a whole, the Eagles ran the ball 45times for 256yards (they only threw 29 passes).
Rush rush rush
The Eagles came into Thursday’s contest in second place in the NFL with 38 sacks. They added four more against Tony Romo and the Cowboys, and totaledeight tackles for loss.
They maintained consistent pressure on Romo and made short work of the highly-touted Dallas offensive line, one that propelled the Cowboys to lead the NFL in rushing. And speaking of the Cowboys’ run game, the Eagles held the rushing leader to 73 yards on 20 carries.
Get points on the board
Sometimes field goals are enough. Four of the Eagles red zone trips resulted in just three points. But that adds up for an offense. A week after Cody Parkey made five field goals he added four more Thursday.
It didn’t hurt that the Eagles caused three Dallas turnovers, or that they outgained them 464-267. They also punched into the end zone three times for 21 points on touchdowns. It was complete domination.
