Eagles Super Bowl winner Nick Foles traded to Bears

Former Philadelphia Eagles and Super Bowl–winning quarterback Nick Foles is on to his next city.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sent the veteran quarterback to the Chicago Bears on Wednesday afternoon for a compensatory fourth-round draft pick.

Foles lasted just one year in Jacksonville after signing a four-year, $88 million deal last season following his two-year, second stint with the Eagles.

In those two seasons with Philadelphia from 2017 to 18, the 31-year-old catapulted his way into franchise lore after taking full advantage of the opportunities presented by a pair of Carson Wentz season-ending injuries.

In 2017, he helped deliver the Eagles’ first and only Super Bowl title, defeating Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII where he was named game MVP.

The following year, he stepped in and won the final three games of the regular season to nab a wild-card spot. He beat the Bears in the Wild Card Game before falling to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round.

Foles’ reinstatement as a starter with the Jaguars didn’t go nearly as well. In his debut in Week 1, he suffered a broken clavicle. He returned in Week 11 and lasted just three games before he was benched for Gardner Minshew.

He didn’t win a single game, passing for 736 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

His spot on the Bears’ depth chart will be very much in the air. He’ll immediately become competition for Mitchell Trubisky, who has disappointed since he was taken No. 2 overall in 2017 out of North Carolina.
