The Philadelphia Eagles had four selections entering the final day of the 2023 NFL Draft.
General Manager Howie Roseman didn’t seem too thrilled with that early in round four though.
Philadelphia traded a 2024 third-round pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for the 105th overall selection and the right to draft Georgia’s top cornerback Kelee Ringo.
Ringo has been the top corner for the Georgia Bulldogs over the last two seasons. Pro Football Focus graded Ringo’s 2022 season at an elite 71.4. He recorded two picks last season. Ringo was considered a potential first-round selection by many scouts throughout the pre-draft process.
Roseman’s trade-up is significant. Giving up a 2024 third-round selection is no small penny when talking about current selections. The Eagles walked into the 2023 NFL Draft expecting at least 12 selections in 2014. Instead, the compromise with Arizona on tampering charges, the trade-up for Jalen Carter, and now the latest trade-up in the fourth round leaves the team with nine selections – three coming in the first two rounds.
There will be some debate on where Ringo will play and how long it will take for Ringo to be ready. Ringo has the versatility to play safety but can be seen as a future lockdown corner.
Still, selecting a late-round steal like Ringo doesn’t come very often and the Eagles were wise to swoop into the opportunity.
