Eagles Training Camp notes: Jalen Hurts has his best day yet

The Eagles offense seems to be hitting its stride as we get closer to the first preseason game of 2022. The Birds are just days away from getting their first game reps in against an opposing team when the Jets come to town. Here are some notes from Wednesday’s Training Camp practice.

Hurts and offense go deep

One thing that was not really seen in 2021 was a consistent ball from Jalen Hurts. Questions about the quarterback’s arm strength should certainly be silenced after his performance over the last few weeks, particularly Wednesday.

Hurts stretched the field on 7v7 and found A.J Brown and Zach Pascal for deep touchdowns. It’s not much, but Hurts was at his best today. It’s a great sign with game reps potentially coming for the starting quarterback.

Eagles starters will play on Friday

For those fans worried they won’t get their money’s worth in seeing the starters play on Friday, don’t fear. Nick Sirianni in his press conference Wednesday morning announced that the starters will play a series or two.

It is, of course, the right decision. There hasn’t been a whole lot of tackling, and it’s important for the team to have tackle reps to make sure they are prepared for Week One.

Offensively, it also makes a lot of sense. The group hasn’t been great, so some game reps to help restore confidence are always helpful.

It’s the smart move from Sirianni regardless of the injury risk.

Jordan Davis is a leader already

Defensive tackles are a hard position to scout in the NFL. What may be a good system for one, isn’t for others. As rookies, it’s hard for tackles to make a name for themselves so early because the defensive systems are far more complex than in college.

Jordan Davis has already left his mark on the field and is showing just how valuable he is off it as well. When asked about his viral video against Cam Jurgens in which Davis dominated a 1v1 rep, Davis was quick to point out that Jurgens has gotten the better of him as well.

You don’t hear young players saying things like this. Davis also mentioned that he wasn’t coming in to completely change the Eagles but just to help the team wherever he can.

Are there players who may be playing better than Davis at this point in camp? Probably. But his leadership traits as a rookie are unmatched.

The Eagles 2022 class, on paper, looks excellent. It gets even better if Davis continues to play, and act with the makings of an All-Pro.
