A second elderly woman who was trapped inside a car that plunged into Pennypack Creek died late Monday, police said.
The accident happened at 1:42 p.m. Monday in Northeast Philadelphia. Authorities said the unidentified elderly driver lost control of a 2006 Lincoln Continental, hit a guard rail and went down an embankment before landing in the creek.
The driver, a woman between 70 and 80 years of age, was declared dead at the scene. The passenger, Elizabeth Jones, 71, was pronounced dead at about 11:45 p.m. Monday at Aria Torresdale Hospital.
