An update released Wednesday by his colleaguesrevealed more about the condition of local celebrity chef Eli Kulp, who was injured during the Amtrak 188 crash on May 12, City Paper reports.
According to the update, Kulp suffered a seriousspinal injury in the crash and will require “months of rehabilitation.”
Ellen Yin, co-owner with Kulp of Fork and High Street on Market, and also operates a.kitchen + bar at AKA Rittenhouse Square with him,released the following statement:
“Chef Eli Kulp sustained a severe spinal cord injury during the recent Amtrak train derailment. His injuries are significant and will require many months of rehabilitation, but he has already shown early signs of recovery. Plans are now being made for his aggressive rehabilitation. Eli and his family will need all of our support during this difficult time.
“We are all standing behind Eli as he recuperates. Eli, his family and I thank all our friends, family and staff for their concern, love and support.”
A July 16 fundraiser for Kulp’s medical expenses is being planned at Fork, Yin said.
