End the summer on a flavorful note in Chestnut Hill

This weekend begins the end of the summer season. Soon school will be back in session, the weather will begin to cool down and leaves will change in a short time. You might be wondering what the best way is to celebrate the end of one season and the start of the next? Well, Chestnut Hill has the answer for you.

From Friday, September 4th to Sunday, September 13th, Philadelphians will be able to head to the picturesque section of the city to try some of the unique and diverse offerings that Chestnut Hill is providing to celebrate the flavors of the summer. Choices range from a variety of cuisines offering a variety of prix fixe menus, à la carte options and take out, with most establishments also featuring outdoor seating. 

“Every summer, Chestnut Hill hosts a Restaurant Week to highlight its varied and outstanding dining destinations. This year’s Taste of Summer: Dining in Chestnut Hill is special for its focus on chefs’ new and innovative menu items rather than discounts on regular fare like a traditional Restaurant Week,” says Philip Dawson, executive director of the Chestnut Hill Business District in a statement. “We’re asking customers to come out and support our local restaurants during this challenging time, and in return they will enjoy fresh seasonal limited-edition dishes and cocktails, against the lush backdrop Philadelphia’s Garden District.”

Metro has a few highlighted options to peruse before making the choice of where to dine for A Taste of Summer: Dining in Chestnut Hill. 

Chestnut Hill Brewing Company

The popular dining destination known for its craft beer and wood-fired pizza selection will be serving up a few one-of-a-kind dishes highlighting some of this season’s most colorful flavors. Their highlighted special dishes include their Heirloom Caprese Salad (made with fresh mozzarella, shredded mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes and balsamic), Basil Summer Cobb Salad (made with romaine lettuce, shredded mozzarella, goat cheese, oven-roasted local corn and oven-roasted asparagus with garlic and rosemary) Brussels Char (made with fontina, ricotta, charred brussels sprouts, caramelized onions and aged balsamic) and Roasted Peach Salad (made with spinach, red onion, radish, jicama, and roasted peaches topped with pecans and a lemon pecan vinaigrette.)

El Poquito

The Mexican eatery has an abundant amount of outdoor seating on top of their latest offerings for A Taste of Summer: Dining in Chestnut Hill. Special options from the popular restaurant for the food-filled week include their Summer Sendoff Salad (made with heirloom tomatoes, peaches, king crab, ancho-lime vinaigrette queso fresco and plantain streusel), Smoked Brisket Tacos (made with taqueria guacamole, sweet corn and summer squash salsa on corn tortillas) and Spicy Strawberry Mojito (made with rum, lime, mint, strawberries and jalapeños).

Baker Street Bread Co. 

The carb-filled paradise will be serving up a lot more than just their famous bread for the special event starting this weekend. Philadelphians who head to the Germantown Ave establishment will be able to indulge in their Valley Green Grilled Veggie (served on a ciabatta roll), Chestnut Hill Cobb, Germantown Dog on a roll and Water Tower Breakfast Dog (steamed eggs with white cheddar cheese and a hot dog, with or without ketchup.)

Iron Hill Brewery

The popular chain has a Center City location, but for A Taste of Summer: Dining in Chestnut Hill, Iron Hill’s Chestnut Hill location will be serving up a few seasonal specialties. Choices include their OMG BLT (made with bacon, pepperoni, arugula, fresh mozzarella cheese, basil pesto mayonnaise and a balsamic glaze served on a ciabatta), Strawberry and Goat Cheese Salad (made with baby spinach, red onion, toasted almonds and a poppy seed vinaigrette)and Brussel Sprouts (made with olive oil, lemon, black pepper and pecorino romano cheese.)

A full list of participating spots will be serving up specialty food and drinks for A Taste of Summer: Dining in Chestnut Hill is available online. A few other highlighted specialty dishes include CinCin Pan Fried Noodles from CinCin, Bananas Foster from Breakfast Boutique, locally sourced Erdenheim Tomato Salad with basil and goat cheese from Mica, a shortbread lemon tart with blueberries from Night Kitchen Bakery and much more. 

According to the release, parking is free after 6 pm in the six centrally located public parking lots and along the street. If you plan on using SEPTA, you can board at Jefferson, Suburban or 30th Street stations and travel via the Chestnut Hill East line. The last stops on the line will bring you to Chestnut Hill. When exiting, make a left turn out of the station and walk two blocks up Bethlehem Pike to Germantown Avenue.
