The Winter season is known for its cold temperatures, wind chills and snow storms- not a lot of room for fun with that weather forecast. But Chestnut Hill believes that all Philadelphians can have fun in the Winter despite the ice and chill, and will be hosting their Chestnut Hill on Ice (formerly Valentine’s on Ice) extravaganza to prove just how enjoyable the Winter months truly can be. Here is everything you need to know about Chestnut Hill on Ice.
Everything you need to know about Chestnut Hill on Ice
The two-day event along Germantown Ave will be the host of many ice-themed activities including a pop-up ice skating rink, live ice carving, an ice bar and more.
The Iceless ice skating rink will only be open for two days during the event. Guests can skate across the 960 square-foot iceless rink for only $10 per person. Skates come in varying sizes and walkers for non-skaters will also be available on site. After skating warm up by one of the cozy firepits and refuel with goodies from the Hot Chocolate Bar (courtesy of Chill on the Hill) and the Maple Syrup Popcorn Bar (sponsored by Serendipity of Chestnut Hill). As a bonus, skating tickets also get you a complimentary hot chocolate and popcorn. The rink will be located at the Chestnut Hill Parking Blue Lot, 184 E. Evergreen Ave.
There will also be live ice carving and beautiful ice sculptures setting the already picturesque Winter scene. The live ice carving demonstrations will take place at designated locations throughout the two day period.
Guests can also spend time at the Yurt Village located at the Laurel Hill Gardens where they can get a taste of “glamping”. The village-filled with tents fitted out with chic furnishings styled by Tailored Home, HOST, and Tallulah & Bird- will host an eight-foot ice bonfire on the first night of the event.
The extravaganza will feature an Ice Bar (located at the Fareway) as well. Their normal outdoor beer garden will become an outdoor ice bar (carved entirely out of blocks of ice) for this fun-filled extravaganza and will feature ice-cold locally-brewed beers and wines. Guests can also escape the cold with the event’s warming stations featured at five locations along Germantown Avenue (Chestnut Hill Parking Blue Lot, Top of the Hill Market, Market at the Fareway, The Duke Barber Co. and Laurel Hill Gardens). The warming huts include fire pits, wine and cheese tastings, hot beverages and snacks.
Throughout the event be sure to check out the “I Love Chestnut Hill” Photo Spots in front of two giant red hearts on Germantown Avenue and use the designated tag #ILoveChestnutHill (using a red heart emoji instead of the word “Love”) for a chance to win a Chestnut Hill getaway with an overnight hotel stay, a gift card to be used at participating restaurants or retailers and a swag bag.
