Ex-Philly cop sent to prison for stolen credit card scheme

Photos of luxurious cars, coveted vacation homes and bottles of top-shelf liquor once filled Rahim Henderson’s Instagram feed. For a nightclub owner like Henderson, such images might be expected. But in his case, the photos were indicative ofhis stolen credit-card scheme.

Henderson, a former Philadelphia police officer, was sentenced Monday to five years in federal prison for buying his victims’financial information from online hackers, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Among his victims: a Philadelphia police captain and his son.

U.S. District Court Judge John R. Padova also ordered he former officer to pay $10,204 in restitution and $75,000 in fines.

“I know I’m going to jail. I made peace with that a long time ago,” Henderson, who also owned Atmosphere Lounge in Fairhill, told the judge.”I’m just embarrassed, and I’m just sincerely, sincerely sorry for what I did. I really mean that. I won’t even jaywalk again.”

Henderson was convicted last December on multiple counts of conspiracy, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. With a credit-card encoding machine, Henderson created fake cards with the stolen information he bought online.

Those cards were used to purchase high-end or rare bottles of spirits that he’d sell at Atmosphere, which filled his now-deleted Instagram feed. Other images featured his many luxury cars: a Porche, a Cadillac Escalade and Lexus and BMW sedans, as well as his vacation home in Florida.
