My excuses to head to Opa, midtown village’s modern Greek restaurant/bar, have been numerous. Whether it’s drinks with friends, fun fashion events or a flavorful meal, Opa is a great escape. So, of course, when owners George and Vasiliki Tsiouris invited me to sample the new fall menu, I was happy to accept.

Executive Chef Andrew Brown has added several mouthwatering menu items to the already stellar lineup. New appetizers include curried apple-squash bisque, topped with minted yogurt, true day boat scallops and Notios risotto with house made Greek sausage and Greek ceviche, made with fluke, cucumber, lemon, almond, grapes, tomato and onion served on crispy pita. Or try the autumn salad with arugula, butternut squash, gains, dates, figs, almonds, sherry vinegar, and smoked yogurt. And you can’t go Greek without a lamb course. As a special fall entree, Opa is also featuring a domestic lamp chop paired with quinoa pilaf, pistachio puree and asparagus.

Be sure to try some of my favorites too, including traditional lamb gyros and spinach croquettes (think spanikopita meets mozzarella stick) and wash it all down with one of their famous specialty cocktails like the koukla or antho and you’re good to go.
