Fantasy football: The latest on injuries that could impact Week 2 (David Johnson, Golden Tate, Odell Beckham Jr.)

Week 1 has been a weird and ugly one for fantasy teams. Top picks like Le’Veon Bell and Odell Beckham Jr. were dissapointing while diamonds appeared in performances from rookies Kareem Hunt and Leonard Fournette.

On the injury-front, there were a handful of big named players nicked up in their respective season openers. Here’s a look at some that will almost definitely impact your fantasy league:

David Johnson, RB, Cardinals

The reports on the top 2 fantasy draft pick have been mixed, but what we know for sure is he has significant wrist injury. Sunday evening many were saying the running back would miss playing time to recover but Monday NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport said that he could turn out to be an IR candidate depenting on how he gets diagnosed. Adam Schefter had this to say on Johnson’s wrist: “Cardinals RB David Johnson meeting with wrist specialists and surgery is possible, per source. Decision expected in 24-48 hours.”

UPDATE: At around 4 p.m. Monday sources said that Johnson’s wrist required surgery — but that he would wait to have it until he gets a second opinion this week.

Danny Woodhead, RB, Ravens

Woodhead hurt his hamstring in Sunday’s shutout win to open the season and it doesn’t look good. While he will return at some point this season, he is expected to miss significant time. If you have an IR spot on your roster open toss him there.

Kevin White, WR, Bears

Not long after Cam Meredith was ruled out for the year, the same fate may be true for Chicago wide receiver Kevin White, who broke a bone in his shoulder and will probably need surgery. That means, on the waiver wire, Markus Wheaton and Kendall Wright are now the top two wideouts on the Bears and are worth signing.

Golden Tate, WR, Lions

Tate had a stellar start to the year catching 10 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown — one of the bright spots in fantasy during a down week — but he was seen wearing a splint on his hand and a finger injury could be a problem if it lingers. It’s worth monitoring.

Allen Robinson, WR, Jaguars

It was confirmed that the Jags top wideout suffered an ACL injury in his left knee during Sunday’s win. He is an IR addition or a drop for most leagues.

Odell Beckham Jr. WR, Giants

The Giants looked lost on offense without OBJ and reports are his injured ankle was just bad enough to keep him sidelined against the Cowboys Sunday Night. He should be healthy enough to play in Week 2, reports suggest.
