Fatal hit-and-run crash in University City

Police are seeking the driver of a burgundy, older-model Ford Explorer which collided with a cab at 37th and Chestnut streets just before 5:30 a.m., fled the scene, ditched the car a block east on Chestnut and ran away.

The driver, who was pronounced dead at HUP a half hour later, has not been identified. There was no description of the driver available several hours later. He drove for 123 Cab Corp. Anybody with information about the incident is asked to call police.
