Federal probe of sheriff’s office

Just weeks after an “unprecedented” forensic audit of the sheriff’s office commissioned by City Controller Alan Butkovitz started, a federal grand jury has issued subpoenas for records into foreclosed-properties sales from both offices as well a contractor who handled sheriff’s sales.

Though he initially declared he’d stay on through the audit, Sheriff John Green retired over the holidays. The U.S. attorney’s office wouldn’t “confirm or deny” subpoenas, but both city agencies confirmed receipt, according to reports.
