Find your purr-fect match at the PSPCA

The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals has always been committed to ensuring the rights of all of our furry friends in the state, and COVID-19 has solidified that mission even more. Now, with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, the nonprofit organization has found a few ways for Philadelphians to help show some love to the city’s four-legged friends in a time when they need it most. 

During the duration of the global pandemic, the PSPCA did what they could to help keep Philly pets comfortable and still provide much-needed services. That includes medical attention, fostering, adoptions and keeping their Humane Law Enforcement team in action, but the nonprofit wanted to find an extra special way to spread some love for the inhabitants of their facilities this Valentine’s Day weekend. 

According to a release, on Feb. 13, the Pennsylvania SPCA will bring adoptable cats to the tasting room at Philadelphia Brewing Company for a special Caturday. Prior to COVID, the organization visited Philadelphia Brewing Company once a month with adoptable cats looking for homes but has been unable to do so since the pandemic. In fact, this event will mark one year since there was a Caturday. Safety precautions will be in place, with only one family at a time in the tasting room to find their “purrfect match.” Potential adopters will be taken through the room on a first come, first serve basis, and are invited to hang out in the Peacock Room, grab some beer and cider, and decorate hearts while they wait. This “Meowentine’s Day” version of Caturday will kick off this Saturday. 

Next, caffeine lovers can spread the love with a special purchase. The PSPCA’s annual collaboration with Reanimator Coffee Roasters was recently released with a new blend. The Reanimator Puppy Love Blend is available both online and in stores, with all proceeds going to help the organization’s life-saving mission. The collaboration this year especially is meaningful for Reanimator as well, being a small, local business trying to withstand the pandemic. 

Lastly, Philadelphians can also send love in the form of a Valentine to a shelter pet. In years past, the PSPCA has helped show adoptees love by helping match adopters with their most compatible canine partner by encouraging them to visit the adoptions desk, take a quick survey and then meet three dogs the staff recommends. That OkCanine campaign helped credit Philadelphians with $50 to help find their perfect canine match, and it ran throughout the month of February last year. However, with social distancing guidelines, the PSPCA has found a new way to still be able to show some love. 

The release states that for a donation of $10, the Pennsylvania SPCA will hang a special Valentine – with your name or the name of your choosing – on a shelter resident’s kennel door to show that these homeless animals are loved while they await their forever families.
