Philadelphia’s Barnes Foundation will soon be offering visitors free admission, family entertainment and informational seminars between 1 and 6 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month.

Sponsored by PECO, “Free First Sundays at The Barnes” is kicking off this weekend with a 1 p.m. live musical demonstration by Shen Yun Performing Arts exploring how Chinese dance, music and visual art reflect the Eastern tradition of connecting with nature.

The museum’s horticultural education coordinator Nicole Juday will at 2 p.m. hold a discussion about the history of the arboretum movement and how The Barnes has evolved to include a green, landscaped campus.

The inaugural “Free First Sunday” will wrap up following a 2:30 p.m. question-and-answer session with famous local mosaic artist and Magic Gardens founder Isiah Zagar.

More than 800 visitors are expected to attend this weekend. The Barnes Foundation said they plan to introduce new themes aimed at different audiences each month.
