Fitz on 4th brings out fresh fun for the summer season

Family-owned restaurant Fitz on 4th opened in Queen Village in the spring of 2022, and this vegan locale has been offering the area plant-based treats ever since.

Restaurateur Alison Fitzpatrick and her oldest son and business partner, Alex Soto, are now opening up the eatery’s offerings in a new way to the public with a new artist residency program, a new slate of edible offerings and a block party kicking off this weekend on June 22.

As the release notes, over the past few weeks, Chef Fitzpatrick has been working hard to bring the Queen Village spot several new initiatives that will support not only the restaurant’s menu, but also the local community.

The seasonally-led menu was recently just introduced at the venue, located at 743 S. 4th Street, and all of the ingredients being used—like a summer salad with sumac, za’atar, and watermelon; charred bok choy and comb mushrooms with sweet ginger sauce; and house-made purple sweet potato ravioli—are all being showcased in their peak season for a reason, as Fitzpatrick is now growing their own herbs on site.

“We believe in serving the freshest possible produce available, and we believe in using locally sourced ingredients. What can be fresher or more local than having your own vegetable garden to support a vegan menu,” said Fitzpatrick in a statement.

“We’re very excited for the microgreens as well, but not only will this support a sustainable business model, we are pleased that our guests will see our beautiful garden when they dine at our restaurant, and they’ll know exactly where their food is coming from.”

Fitzpatrick is currently planting a garden outside the restaurant where she is growing summer produce to use at the restaurant, creating the most local, sustainable vegan menu possible, the release also notes. Additionally, she has installed a Terraponics unit for microgreens in the basement, which will be utilized on her entire menu.

Philadelphians can indulge in everything Fitz on 4th has to offer and more this Saturday when the venue hosts its Summer Solstice Block Party for the community from noon to 8 p.m. The event is meant to also highlight other local businesses and bring community engagement through food, family, fun, music, and more.

As an extra bonus added to Fitz’s summer offerings, the restaurant has also partnered with Queen Village Montessori to conduct vegan cooking classes for kids and their parents.

And last but certainly not least, the restaurant has also just introduced its first Artist in Residency program with the work of Stephanie K. Flynn, a fine artist and designer living in Philadelphia, on display.

Flynn is known for blending lifelong artistry with robust design expertise to provide custom acrylic paintings and creative services for her clients, the release also notes. At Fitz on 4th, Flynn will be showcasing a collection of 30 pieces, including an array of pet portraits, vivid landscapes, and still life paintings.

“Right now, we are hyper-focused on supporting local everything,” finished Fitzpatrick. “We want to become the community hotspot in our area, and bringing food art and together is just the beginning.”
