Five dead after four Halloween night car crashes

Four automobile collisions around the city early Saturday morning after Halloween left five people dead, police said.

A 69-year-old male, 16-year-old male, and three pedestrians about whom no further information is available died in the various crashes.

The first crash was just before 2 a.m. Saturday when a Pontiac 2007 traveling north near Logan Street and Stenton Avenue hit a pole.

The driver, 54, was arrested and tested for DUI. Charges are pending and police did not state whether the driver was impaired.

The passenger, 16, was injured and died half an hour later.

The second crash, at around 3:15 a.m., occurred when the driver, 69, lost control of his 2001 Hyundai and hit five parked cars near the intersection of Fairmount and Haverford avenues in West Philadelphia.

The driver was pronounced dead 20 minutes later. No one else was injured.

The third crash occurred at 3:45 a.m. when a pedestrian crossing the street at Broad and Tioga streets was killed.

The pedestrian was hit by a 2015 Kia Credenza and then was “possibly” hit by a second vehicle, the police report states. The Kia remained on the scene but the second vehicle did not. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at 6 a.m.

The fourth and final crash occurred at 5:45 a.m. Saturday when two pedestrians, one female and one 52-year-old male, were killed.

A 1998 Honda driven by an 18-year-old male traveling north on Roosevelt Boulevard fatally struck the two pedestrians as they were running to cross the street at the intersection with Hartel Street.

The male pedestrian died at the scene. The other pedestrian was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. Police said the driver showed no signs of impairment.
