Five Flyers headed for surgery

Chris Pronger will be going under the knife — again.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren confirmed yesterday that the defenseman will undergo a procedure called a discectomy today in New York. It will be Pronger’s fourth surgery in the past nine months.

Meanwhile, captain Mike Richards had surgery yesterday to repair torn cartilage in his left wrist. He will begin rehab in four weeks. Andrej Meszaros had surgery on his right wrist, while Blair Betts had his left pinkie finger repaired. Goaltender Michael Leighton also underwent surgery yesterday on his injured hip.
