Five killed in crash on Pennsylvania highway

Five people are dead after a head-on collision on a highway near Allentown Wednesday afternoon, Philly.com reported.

The incident happened around 4:00 p.m. in Upper Macungie Township on Route 222 near the intersection with Route 100, when a vehicle crossed the median and crashed into the path of a truck. Both vehicles were consumed in flames.

The crash was so violent that “a coroner in eastern Pennsylvania says forensic testing will be needed to identify [the] five people killed,” CBS reported.

The truck driver survived with minor injuries and has been identified as Richard Eckrote of Allentown.
