Five people killed, five injured in about 48 hours this weekend

Five people were killed and five people were injured – three of them critically – during a particularly violent span lasting slightly more than 48 hours.

The weekend’s first homicide occurred at 12:15 a.m. Friday morning when a man, 19, was shot multiple times on the 1500 block of North 29th Street in Brewerytown. He was rushed to Hahnemann Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Friday evening, a man, 47, was shot in the head at 11:40 p.m. on the unit block of West Rockland Street in Germantown. He died a short time later at Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Less than 30 minutes later, a man, 24, was stabbed in the face aboard a SEPTA bus at 54th Street and Florence Avenue in Kingsessing. He is in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

A man, described as a black male in his mid-20s, was shot in the arm and stomach shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday morning on the 3900 block of Lancaster Avenue in the Mantua section of West Philadelphia. He is in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Less than 17 minutes later and two and a half miles away, two people were stabbed at 54th Street and Woodland Avenue. One man, 24, was wounded in the back and shoulder and the second man, 48, was stabbed in the neck, chest and back. Both are in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

At virtually the same time, a man in his 20s was shot multiple times while sitting inside a green Toyota Camry on the 4900 block of West Girard Avenue in Parkside. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The third homicide of the night happened at 3:40 a.m. when a man, 23, was shot in the back and arm on the 2200 block of South 63rd Street in Elmwood. He also died on the scene.

About two hours later, Officer Moses Walker Jr., 40, was shot multiple times on the 2000 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue in North Philadelphia just after he finished his shift at the 22nd District headquarters. He died at Hahnemann Hospital.

A man was shot multiple times at North 8th Street and West Lycoming Street in Hunting Park early this morning. The victim, 28, told police he heard gunshots and realized he was hit underneath his left arm and foot. He was taken to Temple University Hospital and is in stable condition.

No arrests have yet been made in any of the incidents.
