A man was killed after someone hit him with a rock Thursday in North Philadelphia, according to investigators.

The 37-year-old victim was pronounced dead at 12:10 p.m., authorities said, shortly after officers arrived at the scene on the 3400 block of Mascher Street.

Law enforcement apprehended a male suspect, but police did not release further details about him.

In other news, five people were injured in separate shootings between Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday morning in Philadelphia, police said.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Thursday, a 36-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and right elbow outside on the 3000 block of N. 22nd Street in North Philadelphia.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was later listed in stable condition, according to authorities.

Also in North Philadelphia, a 44-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after being shot three times in the head at around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday on the 1700 block of N. Taney Street, investigators said. He is expected to survive.

Two men were wounded when gunfire erupted just before 5:30 p.m. Monday on the 100 block of N. 63rd Street in West Philadelphia, police said.

A 46-year-old man was struck in the thigh, and a 20-year-old man was hit twice in the right foot. Both were transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition, authorities said.

Earlier in the day, at around 2:30 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot twice in the left arm on the 7200 block of Haverford Avenue in the Overbrook Park neighborhood, according to police.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian to be treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
