Fletcher Cox celebrates Nick Foles’ retirement with fans at Xfinity Live!

As Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles was set to officially retire, two other legendary members of Philadelphia Eagles’ lone Super Bowl team were on site for the festivities, including six-time pro bowler Fletcher Cox, who was on hand at Xfinity Live! to celebrate with fans in what was a homecoming of Birds royalty Monday night in Philadelphia.

In an event sponsored by Bud Light, Cox surprised fans as a guest bartender at one of Xfinity Live!’s interior bars. Eagles fans erupted with excitement the moment he walked through the door and gathered around the Eagles legend chanting E-A-G-L-E-S, shaking his hand and asking for selfies, and some even asking Cox if he would open his own restaurant someday.

This event was not just some spur-of-the-moment occurrence but the latest in a long line of Eagles-themed celebrations by the team’s official beer, Bud Light. Last month, when Foles announced his retirement, the news was quickly met with a flirtatious suggestion by Bud Light to celebrate the news with the release of 52 limited-edition commemorative Philly Philly bottles, each encased in a Philly Philly-style wooden display box.

Eagles fans instantly jumped at the idea, but they also weren’t the only ones. Fletcher Cox, upon hearing of the idea, suggested bringing back the ‘Philly Philly celly’ as well, leading not only to the release of these limited edition bottles but the ultimate fan experience that took place ahead of Monday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

“This year, Nick and I both made the decision to hang up our cleats and had the honor of doing so as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles,” said Cox when the event was announced. “Calling it a career has brought back so many special memories of winning Super Bowl 52 and the epic “Philly Philly” celebration from Bud Light, who rallied around us and our incredible fans throughout the championship season. It only makes sense to partner with Bud Light to run it back one more time with a can’t-miss party, giving fans the chance to cheers to the end of an era for the players who made history happen.”

Metro Philadelphia spoke with the legendary Eagle at Xfinity Live! and discussed his relationship with Nick Foles.

“We got drafted together. You know, We went through ups and downs. I was just saying that me and Nick, we were on the team where we went 4-12, you know? But things turned around the next couple years and we won a Super Bowl so that’s the most important thing.”

Fellow Super Bowl LII champ Jason Kelce was also on-site as the newly added ESPN personality joined fans in tailgating and on stage at Xfinity Live! before joining the broadcast for the game.

With two of his longest-tenured teammates in town, Nick Foles himself made his way to the party to enjoy his moment with his fellow legendary Eagles. Together, the three former players had played 40 regular season games and six playoff games together—by far the most of any teammates in Foles’ career. The only teammate missing was Brandon Graham, who was preparing for the Eagles’ matchup against the Falcons, and who completes Philadelphia’s Mount Rushmore of Eagles football for that era.
