The Philadelphia Flyers begin a five-game homestand, hosting the rematch versus the New York Islanders. The Flyers look to snap their ten-game losing streak.
On Saturday, the Islanders dominated the Flyers, 5-2. Down, 2-1, in the second period, the Islanders rallied and controlled the third to hand the Flyers their third ten-game losing streak in the 2022 calendar year.
Zach Parise (7G, 4A) potted two goals on Saturday. The 38-year-old veteran has always been a thorn in the Flyers’ side ever since his days with the New Jersey Devils. Parise will occupy the 3LW spot, looking to build off of a strong prior performance.
Semyon Varlamov started the last game, but Ilya Sorokin (10-5-0, 2.19GAA, 93.3%SV) will occupy the crease tonight. Sorokin finished sixth in Vezina Trophy voting last season. In his third NHL season, the 27-year-old is on his way to becoming one of the NHL’s elite goaltenders.
Here’s the tentative lineup for the Islanders, per Stefen Rosner:
Holmstrom-Barzal-Wahlstrom
Lee-Nelson-Beauvillier
Parise-Pageau-Bailey
Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
Aho-Dobson
Salo-Pulock
Romanov-Mayfield
Sorokin
(Varlamov)
Aiming to snap their ten-game losing streak, the Flyers need to dig deep. Unable to hold onto a 2-1 lead on Saturday, it’s critical the Islanders don’t outright dominate a period.
Tony DeAngelo will not be in tonight’s lineup, leaving the morning skate abruptly. He has a lower-body injury dating back to a shot blocked versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. Scott Laughton will return to the lineup, however. One goes, another one comes back.
Morgan Frost (3G, 2A) will center the second line with Owen Tippett and Kieffer Bellows. Frost found consistency towards the end of 2021-2022 but has struggled this year after scoring two goals on opening night:
“You look at Frosty, I still think he’s up and down like a toilet seat. As far as, you see him coming, then he dips. Hopefully, it levels out and it keeps on going the proper direction because he’s supposed to be a skilled guy. You can see it’s there, but it’s still very inconsistent.”
John Tortorella; 11/29/2022
Egor Zamula returns to the lineup tonight. Pairing with Nick Seeler on the third pair. Justin Braun remains in the lineup.
Here’s the tentative lineup for the Flyers:
Laughton-Hayes-Farabee
Tippett-Frost-Bellows
Deslauriers-Cates, N-MacEwen
Willman-Sedlak-Laczynski
Provorov-Ristolainen
Sanheim-Braun
Seeler-Zamula
Hart
(Sandstrom)
New York Islanders moneyline (-120)
Ilya Sorokin over 28.5 saves (-115)
Carter Hart over 27.5 saves (-120)
Tonight’s matchup will be viewable on ESPN+ and radio coverage will be available on 97.5 The Fanatic and Flyers Radio 24/7. The puck drops at 7:30pm.
