Flyers bring back Justin Braun, sign Nicolas Deslauriers

Shortly after the signing of Cooper Marody, the Philadelphia Flyers signed Justin Braun (D) to a one-year deal and Nicolas Deslauriers (LW) to a four-year contract.

A familiar face

Justin Braun played in three seasons with the Flyers before being traded to the New York Rangers during the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline. Braun has played in a total of 176 games with the Flyers so far in his career and has scored 41 points (9G, 32A). He played in eight regular season games with the Rangers and scored two points (1G, 1A). In the playoffs, he suited up for 19 games and recorded one assist.

Braun is a solid third-pair defenseman and he displayed that ability during his first stint with the Flyers. He did struggle during the 2021-2022 season when on the top defensive pairing with Ivan Provorov, a place in the lineup that Braun is not familiar with.

Flyers new guy in town

Nicolas Deslauriers will be joining the Flyers after splitting the 2021-2022 season between the Anaheim Ducks and the Minnesota Wild. Deslauriers played in 61 games with the Ducks and scored 10 points (5G, 5A) and 20 games with the Wild where he scored three goals. He played in three games with the Wild in the playoffs, but didn’t score any points.

Deslauriers is a depth forward who is known for his physical presence and accumulation of penalty minutes. During his career, he has racked up 521 penalty minutes in 506 games played. He had 90 penalty minutes with the Ducks last season and 23 with the Wild.
