Flyers bring Bobby Brink back on two-year deal: All you need to know about the dynamic forward

The Philadelphia Flyers agreed to a two-year, $3 million extension with restricted free agent Bobby Brink on Wednesday afternoon. Brink, 22, spent the majority of the 2023-24 season in the NHL for Philadelphia while also playing a handful of games in the American Hockey League during the regular season and AHL Playoffs.

Prior to his arrival in Philadelphia, Brink was drafted out of the NCAA’s University of Denver following a 24-point in a 28-game season in 2019-20. He suffered a torn labrum in his left hip during a training session that cost him the majority of his 2021 campaign, but returned to form in his final year in college with 44 points over 41 games for Denver in 2021-22. Brink received his first 10 NHL games that same season with 4 assists in 10 games.

In his first full pro season, Bobby Brink played 57 games scoring 11 goals and 16 assists for a total of 27 points. The rookie finished +1 plus/minus last season while skating 14 minutes/game under Flyers bench boss John Tortorella. The 5-foot-8 forward brought an exciting playmaking element to the Flyers lineup last season once he solidified his NHL position. 

In January, Bobby Brink was sent down to the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms after his first 38 NHL games as his ice time dwindled. Brink scored at a point-per-game pace with 7 goals and 6 assists. He was recalled back to the NHL on February 27.  Following the end of the 2024 NHL season without a playoff appearance for the Flyers, the winger was loaned back to the Phantoms for their AHL postseason run where he contributed 4 assists in 6 postseason games. 

The Minnesota native will certainly be impacted by the early arrival of Matvei Michkov in 2024-25. The players share the same position on a suddenly crowded right wing with Travis Konecny, who is also due a contract extension from Philly. Earlier this week, Briere mentioned there was “nothing new” regarding those contractual decisions. 

The Philadelphia Flyers’ only remaining restricted free agent without a signed contract is defenseman Egor Zamula. Since Briere called out Zamula specifically as someone who might be influential in Michkov’s transition to America, this deal is almost certain to get signed, sealed, and delivered over the next few weeks.
