Flyers’ Brink begins rehab stint with Phantoms

Bobby Brink is activated from injured reserve and loaned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to begin his rehab stint.

On July 26th, 2022, the Philadelphia Flyers announced Brink would undergo a torn labrum in his left hip. The end of this month will cap five months on his recovery, the expected timeframe.

Last season, Brink made his debut while Mike Yeo grasped the reigns of the Flyers. He notched four points (4A) in ten games. His first point was a powerplay assist on a Jame van Riemsdyk goal during a 9-2 loss against the Washington Capitals.

2021-2022

Brink put together a solid effort in a short run with Philadelphia last season. His first multi-point game (2A) against the Montreal Canadiens happened in his sixth NHL tilt.

He often partnered with van Riemsdyk on scoring plays. Immediately, Brink found a place on the Flyers’ powerplay. Kevin Hayes and Joel Farabee are two more wingers who found success across from Brink. As it stands in the current 2022-2023 lineup, Brink bridged a scoring play with every left-winger except Nicolas Deslauriers.

John Tortorella demands physicality out of his lineup. He bodied the opposition fifteen times, hitting a crescendo at eight against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brink could be most useful at the faceoff circle when called upon, though it isn’t his bread and butter.

2022-2023

He’ll get a good look in the AHL with the Phantoms. Ian Laperriere will manage his return.

Tortorella made it clear how impressed he is with the AHL. Before sending Cam York to Lehigh Valley, he praised the league for its great competition, allowing NHL prospects to hone their craft. The patience worked for York (+6, 17BLK, 3GV, 51.1%CF) through eleven games in 2022-2023.

This stint with the Phantoms will be the first for Brink, who jumped directly from the University of Denver to Philadelphia last season.
