The Flyers and their ice girls parted ways this offseason, due to disagreements on working conditions and other issues (in the wake of the Rangers and Kings recently dismantling their female crews as well).
But in Monday night’s first preseason game, the first home Flyers game without the girls, deafening boos echoed throughout the arena every time the 12-man all male crew did their job during gaps in play.
In fact, the booing was substantially louder than the Capitols’ four goals in the 5-4 Flyers win Monday.
The reaction gave Flyers players, including Jakub Voracek, a chuckle.
“I think it was pretty funny,” Voracek said, “I had a good laugh out there.”
The star winger did remain politically correct when asked if he supported the fans in their desire to get the female ice crew back at the Wells Fargo Center.
“I have a girlfriend,” he said with a smile, “I don’t want to answer that question.”
