Flyers have three games left to improve their seed

After the Flyers took a commanding 4-0 lead in Florida against the Panthers Tuesday night, the Flyers no longer need to worry about whether they will be able to lock up a playoff spot. It is now all about who they might play.

“We want to finish as high as possible; obviously home ice would be nice in the first round,” Scott Hartnell said after the 5-2 victory.

The Flyers have three games left and trail the Rangers by two points, but the Rangers have played one more game.

This means, statistically, Philadelphia could win its three games (earning six points) and be tied with New York for the No. 2 spot in the Metropolitan Division. And, if the Rangers falter in one of their two contests, the Flyers could pass them outright.

If the playoffs started Wednesday, Philly would be the No. 6 seed and play Montreal. The Flyers face Tampa, currently the No. 4 seed, Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The Flyers have games against the Lightning, Penguins and Hurricanes remaining.
