Flyers star Claude Giroux met with league officials Monday and was suspended one game for his illegal hit on New Jersey’s Danius Zubrus in Game 4. He’ll miss Game 5 Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers trail the Devils 3-1 in the series.
Giroux’s hit appeared to be out of frustration, as he launched himself at Zubrus’ head. Giroux said he had no intention of hitting him in the head and noted that he did not leave his feet.
“My elbow was down. I didn’t jump. I’m a pretty honest player,” Giroux said. “I’m not a dirty player. I’m not out there to hurt anybody. I was just trying to finish a hit.”
