Flyers schedule will be more balanced

There are 82 games in an NHL season, so making a big deal of the Flyers’ 2014-15 schedule — with more than three months till the first puck drops — is a bit premature.

But a first glance at their slate of games does hint that the Flyers, in the second season of realignment, could face a more manageable schedule than they had last season.

The Flyers open their 48th NHL season on Oct. 8 in Boston, with the home opener coming the next night against New Jersey.

The squad will play 30 games against division opponents, 24 against teams in the Atlantic, and a home-and-home against all the teams in the Western Conference.

The Flyers’ schedule is more balanced with between 10 and 14 games each month. Their heaviest month of travel comes in December, when they will play 10 of 14 games on the road, and their busiest month at home comes in January when they play nine of 14 at the Wells Fargo Center.

Other highlights include a visit from the Stanley Cup Champion Kings on Oct. 28, and their annual Black Friday game on Nov. 28 against the Rangers at 1 p.m.

The Flyers will also have a holiday road trip — an eight-game trek split in two by Christmas — leading Philly from Toronto on Dec. 20 to Jan 3. in New Jersey.
