Flyers sign playoff hero

The Flyers couldn’t steal the Eagles’ thunder, but they quietly locked up one of their core players.

The team and James van Riemsdyk agreed yesterday to a six-year, $25.5 million contract extension. The 22-year-old will earn about $4.25 million per season through 2017-18.

He scored 21 goals and recorded 19 assists (40 points) in 75 games last season. Van Riemsdyk had his coming-out party in the playoffs, where he scored seven goals in 11 games.

Van Riemsdyk wrote the following on his Twitter feed yesterday: “Want to thank mr snider and flyers management for treating me well and showing confidence in me #firstclassorganization.”
