Flyers sign Scott Hartnell to contract extension

Scottie Hartnell capped a career year with a permanent home.

The Flyers wing inked a six-year contract extension Monday with the team, according to GM Paul Holmgren. Hartnell tallied 67 points and 37 goals (both career marks) while matching his career-high for assists with 30. He was also named to his first NHL All-Star Game.

“I am very happy to be staying in Philly to continue my career playing in front of the best fans in the NHL,” said Hartnell. “I would like to thank Mr. Snider and the entire Flyers organization.”

Hartnell has appeared in 407 games (out of a possible 410) over parts of five seasons with the Flyers. He was acquired from Nashville in 2007.

“We are pleased to announce that we have agreed with Scott on a multi-year extension,” said Holmgren. “Scott has been a very good player for us over the last five seasons and we look forward to many more good years to come.”
