Flyers’ training facility continues to be among the NHL’s best

The Philadelphia Flyers recently started training camp, but this year, the atmosphere inside the Flyers’ training center is noticeably different. The team’s ownership group, Comcast Spectacor, renovated the Wells Fargo Center before last season, but this off-season, it was the Flyers training center that got a makeover.

As Michael Sulkes, Senior Vice President & General Manager—Comcast Spectacor, informed me today, the work was primarily for the fans. “A huge LED screen in the lobby will show Flyers games when they’re playing,” Sulkes said with one of the many renovations done to benefit the Flyers faithful. 

Another feature fans can enjoy at Voorhees is the Flyers Pro shop. Sulkes explained the upgrade within the Pro shop: “Square footage, a new state-of-the-art look, new television, new gear, and we’re actually going to bring much of the merchandise from the Wells Fargo Center to the Pro Shop here in Vorhees.” Fans can get merchandise at the Wells Fargo Center, and the Pro shop is exclusive to the two locations. 

When the team are not utilizing the facility, many programs use the rink, such as the Future All-Star Development Program and Wings of Steel Sled Hockey Club. With the Flyers having over 50 youth programs, it’s common for the Flyers players themselves to be involved. Owen Tippett is the official ambassador for Flyers Learn to Play. Sometimes, the players will even pop in when they have time for the programs in session. Besides the programs, the Facility still offers public skate and birthday parties.

While the fans were the main focus, the player’s area also got a new look. Sulkes explained, “The player’s area is the best in class now and the best in the league.” During the first few days of training camp, many players explained they spent much time in Vorhees this summer. The new gym area, lounge, and accommodation for the players’ needs are now a part of their area of the Facility. 

Another element of the renovations is new rinks. The Phantoms’ side had their rink completely rebuilt with a new scoreboard, upgraded lighting, and advanced audio systems. The Flyers’ side will be down next off-season. The other big renovation project will be the third rink. The new rink will feature a 3v3 league for adults and so much more.

While many Flyers fans have yet to cross the bridge to New Jersey, Sulkes gave his thoughts on why fans should, “You have to check it out. This is the home of the Flyers. This is where the players spend more of their time. It’s an amazing facility, and we’re just making it better. Come out and check out public skating and enjoy the facility.”
